"I would describe myself as a typical dumpy middle-aged (Jewish) guy. I have paid attention to my aerobic/cardiovascular training for years but had been much less serious about strength training (despite working with weights on and off for years). About a year and a half ago I felt I needed to undertake a more dedicated resistance training regimen in order to maintain my future health and allow me to enjoy my recreational interests long into my “golden years”. I was not concerned about looking good in Speedos.
Working with Simon has been effective as well as educational. Simon is well versed in the principles of strength training, particularly in the concepts of progressive resistance, compound muscle group training, high intensity training, etc. All with the goal of improving health. There are no shortcuts—results require hard work and Simon has had me working harder than I have ever worked before, yet all done with safety in mind. The results speak for themselves. I have doubled my strength under his guidance in the relatively short time we have been working.
Working with Simon is not a function of him simply handing me weights and telling me what to do (dare I say, it isn’t “Simon Says”). He has been relentless in insisting that I pay close attention to the structure and development of my training and that I participate in that planning and development . He feels it is critical that his clients understand the principles involved—we should be able to tell him why we are doing what we do, not just the other way around.
